He applied for the chef position to see how the magic is done. What we have here is the only photo on record of this agent, mostly because his cover was immediately blow when this photo was sent out on million of Lindt bars across the world. Of course, he had no idea that a photo was even being taken, that's was all thanks to another covert op. You see, Chef Covert thought he was working alone on this operation, but that most certainly was not the case. The people he was working for didn't trust his judgment, but most of all, they didn't trust him. So they sent in a tail, a second agent to the Lindt locale to keep an eye on him. That agent took the picture of Chef Boy doing the one thing that his bosses were afraid he was going to do. He fell in love with the cocoa goddess that is Lindt. The second Photo Agent saw that look of lust and intensity in Chef Boy's eyes, he knew that he was a lost cause. Oh sure ...

Old-Fashion Potluck Recipes - Beans and Franks and Tropical Wedding Cake Ad Recipe

We are all invited to potluck meals at times. Whether it is a family get-together, church social activity, office meal, community night-out, or other occasion requiring you to take a dish to share, here are a couple of old fashion recipes that are sure to please. They are simple, quick, easy to prepare, tasty, and economical. Beans and Franks are always a crowd pleaser and a special hit with the kids. Tropical Wedding Cake is an easy cake that looks and taste like you spent lots of time on it. It is also a good "make ahead" cake since it needs to be refrigerated over night.

TROPICAL WEDDING CAKE AD RECIPE

This recipe for Tropical Wedding Cake is from an old, yellowed and ripped newspaper clipping. A local Southern Indiana grocery store had run this ad as their recipe of the week.

1 box yellow cake mix, prepared as directed on box and baked in a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar with a one pound four ounce can of crushed pineapple and cook over medium heat for five minutes.

When cake comes from oven, pierce top with a large fork and pour warm pineapple-sugar mixture over the cake.

Prepare one large package of vanilla pudding (not instant) according to directions and spread over pineapple. Cover and refrigerate cake overnight.

When ready to serve, spread Regular or Extra Creamy Whipped Topping over top of cake and sprinkle with coconut.

BEANS AND FRANKS

3 slices bacon, cut in 1-inch pieces
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1/2 lb frankfurters, cut in 1-inch pieces
1 can (1 lb. 14 oz) pork and beans
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp mustard
4-oz Cheddar cheese, sliced about 3/4-inch wide

In a ten inch skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Saute onion, pepper and franks in skillet with bacon until onion is transparent. In a 3-quart casserole combine all ingredients except cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Arrange cheese slices on top in spoke design. Bake ten minutes longer. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Cooking - Angel Cake Recipe

Betty's Happy Mother's Day Hummingbird Cake

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Hummingbird Cake for Mother's Day. This is a three-layer cake that is similar to carrot cake, but it does not have carrots or coconut; in the place of those ingredients, it has bananas. It is a terrific cake to make to honor your mother on Mother's Day! Ingredients: 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 cups sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 3 eggs, well-beaten 1 cup vegetable oil ½ tablespoon (1 ½ teaspoons) vanilla extract 8-oz. can crushed pineapple, undrained 1 cup chopped pecans 2 chopped bananas (about 2 cups) Cream Cheese Frosting for Mother's Day Hummingbird Cake (You will find this in bettyskitchen—next video.) ½ cup chopped pecans Combine 3 cups flour, 2 cups sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a large mixing bowl. Add 3 well-beaten eggs and 1 cup vegetable oil, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not beat. Stir in ½ tablespoon vanilla, an undrained 8-oz. can crushed pineapple, 1 cup chopped pecans, and 2 chopped bananas. Stir just until all ingredients are combined. Spoon batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees (F) for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. (My cake layers took only 20 minutes to bake; this will vary with different ovens.) Remove cake layers from oven. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, and then remove from pans and cool completely on a rack or flat ...

Bibingka has rolls of rice or rice noodles. There are many different ways how to make bibingka. But I'm going to show the bibingka my mom and I when I was a child. Except, here ... in this version, I added the eggs and vanilla. Basically, the flour bibingka is made with rice, freshly squeezed coconut milk, sugar and yeast. In ours, we added seeds of anise, if available. We baked our bibingka luck using an oven large batch, divided intohalf for a drawer. (My father has added a wooden handle with the bottom drawer for easy handling.) Bibingka usually baked in a ring of tin, another home-made device, covered with dried coconut leaves. Coal or wood are placed in the top and bottom of the oven luck. The top coal bibingka give a nice golden crust. Indeed. Desserts the centre allotment of your party

It is always fascinating to watch the reaction of guests at an event when the news regarding desserts is announced.  There is such glee and anticipation.  Rarely is there the disapproving voice.  Even where persons have declared they are on a diet. They will quickly convince you that they always have ‘room' for dessert. Interestingly, they will convincingly declare that their diet is able to accommodate sweets.
Armed with this knowledge, you should feel free to ‘flex' your creative mind in order to sweeten and tantalize all the senses, particularly the taste buds of your clients or guests. In designing a "pastry-table" for any given function, you sugar coated, calorific license will be exercised.  As you are aware, some persons eat very little of the appetizers or the entrees in an effort to leave room for the dessert; you must not disappoint.
For the Pastry table to be the centre piece of your party or get together it should have variety and be very colorful and inviting.  Quite likely you were already working with a theme for the party, so mingling the theme with your pastry table will add even more interest and become a conversation piece. On the other hand you could choose to make your pastry table portray a contrasting but non competing theme for additional interest.  One added feature that is welcomed is the use of ‘flora' and ‘fauna'
Pastry tables or bar could be large or small, this too would be dependent on the size of the gathering and the budgetary allocation. Such a table should occupy a very central place in the party location.  While your pastry table should stand out your aim is never to make it overdone or gaudy. 
One example of a theme would be ‘Tropical freshness' mingled with ‘Dairy delights'.  We could showcase an array of desserts made with coconut, pineapples and possibly oranges and lemon. A suggested list then could be, Coconut Macaroons (dotted with a piece of maraschino cherry), coconut cream pie, pineapple upside down cake, Vanilla Cheese cake with Lemon topping, Orange Banana Nut Cake.
In keeping with the tropical theme, you could use dried coconut leaves as a part of the décor.  Depending on the time of year or the calibre of the function the leaves could be spray painted or left in their natural state for a more rustic feel.

Praline Pecans: The Origin

History says that praline originated from a French soldier and diplomat, Marshal du Plessis-Praslin. He was also a sugar industrialist whose cook was believed to have invented the now popular praline. Although there is no sufficient evidence of this theory, still praline's roots is France.

From France to the Mississippi River

Praline pecans, also called the Southern pralines, were first invented in France by a cook in the seventeenth century. Originally, it is a mixture of sugar syrup and almond nuts. Later on, there have been variations on the type of nut integrated in it. And now, pecan nuts are the widely used nut in pralines. The chef developed the technique of coating the almonds in honey or sugar syrup primarily for his employer as gifts to the people he visited and also as an aid for digestion. In France the word praline also means candy with nuts.

When the Frenchmen crossed countries to the banks of Mississippi, they found here a land of abundant sugar canes and nuts. The kitchens of Louisiana were invaded and praline cooking continued, but now, the exotic taste of almonds has been substituted with an equally exquisite taste of pecan where it is abundant in the area. Along with it was the inclusion of cream or thick milk for a more Southern taste.

Sunday Lunch, Sunday Tea, Recipe, Bacon and Egg Pie

A few weeks ago we had the family over for Sunday lunch, nine adults, four grandkids. My wife as usual turned out a cracking meal, Roast beef and lamb – The grandkids prefer lamb – roast potatoes, roast parsnip, cauliflower, small boiled potatoes, carrots and of course Yorkshire puddings with gravy and mint sauce for the lamb. All prepared and cooked by my long suffering wife, the only exception being the Yorkshire puddings which were precooked by “Aunty Bessie” and only needed to be heated in the oven. Anyway after singing the praises of “Aunty Bessie,” I am blithering on as usual and need to get to the point. Well, after overindulging, also as usual, I sat with the two great grandmothers; my mum and my mother-in- law and we began to reminisce about Sunday teatime in those far off days when I was a lad. Everything then seemed to be home made and I might be wrong, but to my mind, while the purse wasn’t deep, the table always seemed to be laden with goodies.





In those far off days no one, as far as I can remember, was on a diet and everyone wasn’t obese, in fact there seemed to be less people of goodly proportions about then. Now that I think about it, the lack of hygiene regulations in the grocer’s – bacon and hams hanging from the ceiling, butter in wooden barrels, great round cart wheels of cheese, loose tea, sugar, flour and a vast variety of dried goods, all packaged or cut and wrapped by hand, with nary a rubber glove in sight – didn’t do us any harm and none of us ever seemed to suffered from food poisoning. Yet in today’s modern world preoccupied with hygiene, health, sell by dates, and warnings on food preparation, people do come down with it.





There you are, I’ve had my bit to say about modern versus the old days, not that I’m against the modern day in general, we have better housing, better medical care, shorter working hours and better wages, but do we have better food? Maybe it’s my rose tinted specs, but I like to think not.





So back to the spread on a typical Sunday teatime when I was a lad living at home. Home baked bread buns, with butter and jam. At least two plate pies, such as bacon and egg, mince and onion, cheese and onion, corned beef and potato, steak and kidney, all baked on enamel plates used solely for that purpose. Pickles, beetroot and sauce to go with them, and of course the sweet stuff. There was always one large sweet pie or tart and a variety of smaller cakes or tarts. As to the larger variety, the selection might be Apple Pie, Blackberry and apple pie, a custard tart or a treacle tart and the smaller, jam tarts, sweet mince tarts, coconut hay stacks, teacakes, currant scones, biscuits and little cakes with icing on the top.





Mum said my favourite was bacon and egg, and I had to agree, even though I remember being partial to cheese and onion. Come to think of it, I liked all of the rest too. The only thing I can ever remember not liking as a lad was butter beans and I still had to eat them, because I wasn’t allowed to leave the table until my plate was empty.





I know, I’m waffling again, so I’ll come to the point, after two hours listening while the matriarchs discussed the finer points of cookery, I managed to get the recipe for the bacon and egg pie. As a male with no skill in the culinary arts, other than to consume the finished product, I have reproduced said recipe below and since my mother is always right, it will be my fault if it turns out wrong.





Bacon And Egg Pie





Serves 4





Ingredients for short crust pastry





8 oz plain white flour ¼ teaspoon salt 2 oz lard 2oz hard margarine 2 tablespoons cold water





Mix flour and salt in a bowl, cut lard and margarine into small pieces, add them to the bowl and rub between the fingers until mixture is like fine bread crumbs. Add water; stir until mixture begins to bind. Then use your hands to knead lightly until the dough is formed.





Roll out on floured board, grease 8- inch pie tin and line with pastry, leaving enough pastry for a lid.





Filling ingredients





8 oz bacon





2 large eggs





A shake of pepper





Half pint milk





Cut bacon rashers in half, fry on gentle heat for five minutes, do not crisp, drain off fat.





Place eggs in basin add pepper to taste, add milk and whisk gently together.





Cover base of pie with bacon, pour on egg mixture.





Cover with pastry lid, crimp edges, cut two small slits in top and brush with milk.





Bake in moderate oven, Gas mark 6 / 400° F / 200° C for 30 minutes.

Raw Layered Chocolate Cake!

I made a delicious layered RAW vegan organic chocolate cake!!! Yum!! Just threw all the ingredients together. The base and "biscuit" layer is just almonds with dates. Cream layer is avocado, coconut oil, agave and cacao powder mixed together. Then layered. And with a cute love heart ice cream mould! Yumm!!! Everyone who tried it loved it!

When it comes to healthy weight reduction, one of the techniques of success is to eat a healthy diet. Balance here means eating the proper quantity of tasty food. But saturated fats are also found in coconut, palm, and palm kernel oil, so these oils should be led clear of on a heart healthy diet. Trans fats, that might also make a contribution to the development of heart issues, are found in marg and many baked products. Monounsaturated fats, the kind that are superb for the heart, include canola oil, olive oil, flax seed oil, nuts, avocado, soy, and nut butters. A vegetarian diet that includes soy products may add a further benefit for heart health.
The common advice is twenty-five grams of soy protein each day. Since cholesterol is only found in food of animal origin,eg meat, eggs and dairy products, vegans don't have to worry about cholesterol in the foods they eat... Grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, veggies and plant oil are all naturally cholesterol free.

Paleo Diet Cake Recipes – How to Bake a Lip-Smacking Paleolithic Pecan Nut Cake

Are you looking for some delectable paleo diet cake recipes? Ah, did I hear you say "yes"? Okay cool, because I want to share with you my methods of baking a Paleolithic style pecan nut cake.
It's quite easy to do so - just follow the step-by-step instructions. I'm sure it'll turn out alright.
You know, recently I tried my hands on a few paleo diet cake recipes which I learned from a digital cookbook set and they all turned out okay.
One of the first paleo cakes I baked had a really burnt look, but surprisingly it tasted awesome! Heck even my fiancé' liked it a lot and she's doesn't even follow the caveman diet. Cool huh?

You'll find lots of tasty paleo recipes in those cookbooks – seafood, beef, chicken, cookies, noodles etc. I don't recall the exact number of recipes, but they do have several paleo diet cake recipes.
Okay I should stop blabbing now. After all, you want to know how to make that paleo pecan nut cake right? So, let's begin!
You'll need these ingredients: 600 grams of pecan nut flour, 30 grams of macadamia nuts, 30 grams of shelled walnuts, 60 grams of raisins, a bit of rosemary and finally, 3 tbs of olive oil
Directions:
Step 1
Pour pecan nut flour into a mixing bowl and stir it around .Next add about 800 ml of water but don't pour the whole jug into the bowl. Instead pour in a gradual manner and repeatedly stir the flour to ensure that lumps do not form.
The mixture must not become too drippy or thick so stir until it is absolutely smooth.
Step 2
Raisins should be soaked thoroughly and the excess water squeezed out completely. Next, drop macadamia nuts, walnuts, raisins and 2 tbs olive oil into the mixture.
Step 3
Grease a shallow cake pan (cake height shouldn't be more than 1 cm) and pour the entire mixture into it. Use the remaining olive oil (1tbs) to drizzle over the mixture and add some rosemary on top of it. Heat oven to 180°C. Place the cake pan in the oven and bake for approximately 30 minutes.
Step
Wait 20 minutes or so for the cake to cool down. Now grab a fork and start gobbling on what I feel is one the best paleo diet cake recipes around!

Yummy Chocolate Cake For Dessert

Like many of us, Germans love desserts and pastries. For them, Christmas will not be perfect without their all -  time favorite desserts on the their table.Furthermore, during a typical weekend, cakes and pastries will certainly create the mood.
Try the recipe below. It is known by many as the German Sweet Chocolate Cake.This delicious dessert is loved by both locals and guests.
German Sweet Chocolate Cake ingredients:
·    4 Oz. Of German sweet chocolate
·    1/2 Cup of boiling water
·    1 Cup of butter
·    2 Cups of sugar
·    4 Pieces of egg yolk
·    1 Teaspoon of vanilla
·    2 1/2 Cup of flour
·    1 Teaspoon of salt
·    1 Cup buttermilk
·    4 Egg whites, mixed well
Step by Step Instructions:
Bring water to boil. Add the chocolate and let it melt.
Mix the butter and sugar until they become fluffy.
Gradually add the egg yolks, beat the mixture after each addition. Blend in the chocolate and vanilla.
Sift the flour with salt and soda then add the dry mixture. Pour in the mixture and buttermilk alternately. Mix it thoroughly. Add the beaten egg whites.
Ready 3 cake pans. Gently pour the mixture to each pans.  Average time of baking : 35 - 40 Minutes, 350 degrees Fahrenheit
When the cake is done, don't serve it yet. You still need to add the icing. The icing or frosting will serve as the covering for the cake. Here's an instruction on how you can create a home-made frosting.
Ingredients:
·    3 Pieces of egg yolks
·    1 Cup of evaporated milk
·    1 Cup of sugar
·    1 Tablespoon of butter
·    1 1/2 Cup of flaked coconut
·    1 Cup of chopped pecans
Instructions:
Beat the eggs along with milk, sugar and butter. Cook over a medium heat fire for about 12 minutes. Stir the mixture while cooking or until it thickens. Remove the mixture from the fire. Add the coconut, vanilla and pecans. Beat again until you reach your desired consistency.
After learning how you can create a German Sweet Chocolate Cake and how to make a frosting for it. You must now use the frosting to cover the cake that you have baked. You must first frost the cake with thin layers of frosting; make sure that the sides are smooth and the top is even. To make the cake attractive, style it with cake decorating flowers and plastic ornaments. Cheers!

Los Angeles, Ca - Food and Drink

Los Angeles' noted Brown Derby restaurant played host to many stars during Hollywood's 'Golden Age.' The eatery was an example of novelty architecture, as it was built to look like a brown derby hat. The Brown Derby was the first restaurant to serve chiffon cake, a recipe invented by an insurance salesman and later given wide distribution by Betty Crocker.





It is said that the greatest food legacy of the Brown Derby is Cobb Salad. The dish was invented by and named after Bob Cobb, one of the restaurant's owners. Bob's wife asserts that he raided the refrigerator late one night and just chopped up some leftovers for a meal. Later that night, some of his Hollywood friends visited the restaurant and joined Bob in partaking of his concoction. When they began to ask for it on later visits, the rest was history.





The Brown Derby was named after a restaurant of the same name located in Malverne, New York that was a trendy vaudeville hangout. The first Brown Derby in Los Angeles, also called the Little Hat, opened its doors in February 1926, directly across from the Ambassador Hotel. It was often the site of after-parties following shindigs at the Coconut Grove nightclub. This was the only Derby that was actually constructed like a hat.





A second LA Brown Derby restaurant was opened on Vine Street, near the famous Hollywood and Vine intersection, on Valentine's Day in 1929. Other Derbies were then constructed in Beverly Hills and in East Hollywood. The latter had a car cafe that followed the then-new drive-in trend.





The Brown Derby in Hollywood closed down in 1985. The building shell was restored and placed atop a strip mall on Wilshire. It is now colored orange and known as the Cafe SheeRi.





In June 2004, the Derby and adjacent lots were purchased by a realty company and the plan was to demolish it to clear space for a condominium complex. A group of interested parties, called 'Save The Derby' sought to prevent the shell from being demolished by getting it designated as an official historical landmark. Due to their efforts, in May 2006 the LA City Council voted unanimously to recognize the entire edifice as an official Historic Cultural Monument of the City of Los Angeles.





In an 'I Love Lucy' show episode Lucy, Ethel and Fred take in lunch at the Brown Derby. During the show, Lucy inadvertently causes a server to dump a plate of food on famed actor William Holden. Presently, there is a replica of the Hollywood Brown Derby at the Disney-MGM Studios in Florida's Walt Disney World Resort.

There's More Than One Way to Frost a Cake

When you think of cake, you automatically think of frosting. But do you realize there are at least half a dozen ways to frost a cake? Of course there is the traditional icing: thick, creamy and oh so sweet due to its butter, eggs and milk. However, top chefs in popular cities such as Chicago or Miami teach culinary arts program students a wide range of ways to top their cakes and other sweets. Let's look at a list of delicious and beautiful ways to frost a cake that students can learn at a Florida cooking school.





Icing/Frosting - This is what grandma used to make. In her day, making icing was a labor of love. With no electric mixers, frosting had to be beaten by hand in order to combine all the ingredients and make it light and fluffy. Today, a basic icing recipe includes milk, powdered sugar, butter, flavorings and possibly eggs or egg whites. As with cakes, you can take these fundamental ingredients, add a little imagination, and create concoctions so delightful your mouth will be in ecstasy!





Cream cheese frosting that's whipped to perfection is just sinful. Coconut icing with a hint of vanilla and almond offers a delicious mix of textures as well as tropical flavor. Add orange rind to a basic frosting recipe for a light, summery taste. Mix in finely chopped mint leaves to accent a chocolate cake. Almonds, lime juice, pecans, oatmeal… the possibilities are literally endless.





Royal Icing - Students in Miami culinary arts programs can learn that one of the easiest icings to make is royal icing which simply consists of egg whites, cream of tartar, powdered sugar and food coloring. Royal icing is so popular because it dries in a hardened state, making it wonderful for use with decorations or writing. It also dries smooth and holds fast so it can easily act as an edible cement when creating complicated pieces. The one thing royal icing is not recommended for is a base frosting for cakes. However, it is exceptional for creating flowers, lace-type accents and other decorations on top of cakes, cookies or other treats.





Fondant - Popular for use with cakes, fondant is an exceptional frosting. It also makes excellent decorations. Pastry chefs in wedding-oriented areas like Hawaii or Florida teach cooking school students specific techniques for working with fondant. More difficult than traditional frosting, the art of making, rolling and using fondant should be given special attention.





With only three ingredients - sugar, water and corn syrup - fondant comes together in an unusual way. Start by combining the sugar and water and heating until all the sugar is dissolved. Add the corn syrup and cook until it reaches what's referred to as the "soft-ball stage." (Due to the fact that the mixture could be loosely formed into the shape of a ball, not because it resembles a softball or baseball.) Pour the liquid onto a marble slab and allow to cool. Working fondant involves turning the outside edges in and folding repeatedly until it becomes pliable. When the fondant turns hard, kneed in any type of flavorings or colors you want.





Fondant can be rolled for use as a smooth cake frosting. This is typically used with wedding cakes because it offers an elegant finished appearance. However, any type of cake can be iced or decorated with fondant. Before use with cakes, you'll want to smooth a thin layer of butter cream on the top and sides so the fondant has something to adhere to.





Glazes - Another simple topping for cakes is the glaze. A mixture of confectioners sugar, water or fruit juice and flavorings creates a thin, translucent liquid. The glaze is then drizzled lightly over cakes, breads, pastries and other goodies. Unlike frosting or fondant, glazes are designed to give a light accent of added sweetness. They dry smooth and can be used to create filigree patterns and other elegant designs.





Want others? Butter cream, ganache, marzipan and more can also be used for frosting cakes and other desserts. When you're looking for something different, break out of the icing box and finish your cake in a whole new way.

carrot cake

carrot cake 8oz plain flour(250g) 8oz sugar,white or brown (250g) 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon baking powder. 6oz butter or margarine (175g) or 6 floz sunflower oil (175ml) 2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla essence. 1lb carrots, cooked and purreed. (500g) 2oz dessicated coconut. (50g) 6oz raisins or sultanas (175g) 4oz chocolate drops (125g) pre-heat oven 180*C/gas mark 4 grease and line 2x 2lb loaf tins. sieve flour, baking powder and cinnamon into a large bowl. add the rest of the dry ingredients and stir together. add the wet ingredients and mix well. pour into loaf tind and bake for about 45-55 minutes untill golden brown and springy.

Easter Baking Ideas

Easter baking is some of the most delightful baking of the year. With the Easter message of reflection and renewal, after the sombre days of the feast have passed a joyful celebration with merry colours and appropriate dishes confirms that life can begin again. Baking itself is more of a pleasure as well at this time of year as kitchens are becoming cooler after the summer's heat.
Leading up to the celebration day, a traditional Easter baked good served for Good Friday breakfasts, and one with a very long history, is the hot, crossed bun. In London in 1592, the Clerk of the Markets decreed that bakers were allowed to sell such spiced breads only at burials, the Friday before Easter, or at Christmas.
Hot Crossed Easter Buns
These round, soft, yeast buns are flavoured usually with cinnamon or mixed spices, and have sultanas kneaded into the dough before baking. There are many variations to the recipes with some adding currants, citrus peel, and other dried fruits, such as apricots, as well.
As the name suggests, the top of the bun has a simple decoration of a cross. Sometimes the cross was incised with a knife before baking; often it was made by adding strips of pastry. In modern times, it is likely that the cross shape is piped on with icing after the buns have cooled slightly.
If baking Easter buns is a bit out of scope for you, then another great Easter baking idea is biscuits, also a wonderful tradition.
Easter Egg Biscuits
Easter biscuits can be quite elaborate, if the fancy strikes you. For something simple, an easy idea for including children in the preparations is to start with a plain arrowroot biscuit.
Give each child a blunt butter knife and dishes with different coloured icing, as well as a bowl containing lollies, jelly beans, shredded coconut or sprinkles. They can use the lollies and sprinkles to decorate the biscuits they have spread with the icing mixture so it looks like an Easter egg.
Icing can also be spooned into a small snap-lock bag. Snip off a tiny corner of the bag and the children can use it to pipe stripes and other designs onto their biscuits.
Home-baking your Easter biscuits will add more options to your decorating as you can cut the homemade, rolled dough into the shape of bunnies, chicks and crosses.
Baking an Easter Cake
A little bit outside of the box for Easter baking, but always a favourite, is an Easter carrot cake. Carrot cakes can be very rich and a small slice will make a full serving. The recipe below is an adaption of this favourite in a loaf form that makes the dessert easier to transport or to give as a gift.

In fact it is believed that it has been man's insistence on selecting and growing grain varieties with every increasing volumes of gluten (and binding properties) that may have lead to the increase in celiac disease in the first place, but I digress. But before we discover the value of xanthan and guar gum it is valuable to understand what part of the gluten molecule is actually the problem for celiacs.

Buttercream Calla Lily Cake

Link to all my videos: www.youtube.com Facebook: www.facebook.com I think this is one of the most delicious cakes I've ever made, this WILL be my birthday cake :D It's just my yellow cake: www.youtube.com but with a few changes. I used a 20 oz. can of crushed pineappple, drained the pineapple and saved the juice, then chopped it even more because I didn't want the chunks to sink. I added a tsp. of coconut extract but I think I'll skip that next time since I made coconut buttercream. Anyway, I used the juice from the pineapples for my liquid (got about a cup) and milk for the rest of the amount needed. I folded the finely chopped pineapple in at the end and baked same as normal. I made my regular buttercream but subbed out half the vanilla for coconut extract. Didn't want it to be overpowering, just like a hint of coconut. It's a little sweet from the pineapples so I would up the salt to maybe 1 1/2 tsp. next time, or see if I can pineapples in juice, NOT in heavy syrup. Tropical Delight [Dave's Birthday Cake]

Ingredients: 1can Crushed Pineapple 1box Yellow Cake Mix 1box Vanilla Instant Pudding 1tub Cool Whip 1/2c Shredded Coconut ---- Mix pudding as directed. Drain pineapple and save the juice. Mix cake mix as directed; but replace the water with the pineapple juice. Bake cake as directed Mix 1/4 cup of the prepared pudding with the cool whip and stir in all but a heaping spoon of the pineapple. Mix the remaining spoon of pineapple with the pudding chill pudding and cool whip mixture while the cake is baking cool the cake for 10 minutes and after poking the top of the cake with a butter knife spread the pudding on top while the cake is still slightly warm. Chill for another 10-15 minutes then top with the cool whip mixture. Chill an hour and enjoy!!!

This is my spin on a classic. I love German Chocolate cake and to make it into cupcakes is just as pleasing. The combination of pecan coconut frosting and hardened dipping chocolate with cake is heavenly. I usually like to do something elegant and I find that this fits the bill.
